Suicide First-Aid…

Want to learn how to help a person with thoughts of suicide?

Delivered by VetHerd, LivingWorks Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a 2-day interactive, face-to-face, evidence-based workshop that prepares participants to provide suicide first-aid. This workshop is open to all members of the veterinary community in both clinical and non-clinical roles.

ASIST is accredited by key bodies including Suicide Prevention Australia, Australian Psychological Society, Australian Counselling Association, and Australian Association of Social Workers.

Over the 2 days you will learn:

Preparing: Speaking about suicide can be difficult. The workshop starts with setting the tone and expectations of the learning experience.

Connecting: Explore personal and societal attitudes towards suicide and how they impact an intervention and being a caregiver.

Understanding: Learn the intervention needs of a person with thoughts of suicide. Gain knowledge and skills to recognise when someone is having thoughts of suicide and how to develop a safe plan together.

Assisting: Practice using the Pathway for Assisting Life (PAL) Model for effective suicide intervention. Develop intervention skills through observation and simulation in large and small groups.

Working Together: Explore resources in local community and how we can work together to create suicide-safer communities. Recognise the importance of self-care in being a caregiver.
